«In this piece, Venus, household objects lounge with fruit to form a large-scale still life. Working in isolation, I arranged the still life to look like a reclining woman. I spent many hours rendering form, texture, light, and color and allowing this freeform composition to grow like a plant. I painted these quotidian objects thinking about pleasure and the slow passing of time. Humor was especially important to me in making this piece, particularly to contrast the intense alienation of quarantine.»
